Commissioner of Memory and Genocide Prevention
Uwimana Basile was elected as the commissioner in charge of Memory and Genocide Prevention of GAERG Board of Directors on Sunday 31st July 2022, prior to his election he was the Father of a family called “IMPETA”. Uwimana Basile survived the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in the Southern Province of Rwanda in the Nyaruguru District.
He held various responsibilities in the Genocide Survivors Organizations since 2005. From 2005-2006, Uwimana Basile served as the Coordinator of AERG- Association des Étudiants et Élèves Rescapés du Genocide at IFAK-Kimihurura. From 2010-2012, Uwimana Basile served as the Vice-Coordinator of AERG at Umutara Polytechnic University. He holds a bachelor’s Degree in Information and Communication Technology.
Uwimana Basile is a professional journalist with 10 years of experience. He is one the few journalists that quickly embraced and adapted to social media platforms when they were introduced. This helped him to know how to gather content, package it and disseminate it widely. He attended different trainings on Communication skills.
Uwimana Basile is a public servant at the Ministry of Environment where he works as the Communication and Outreach Specialist. He also worked at Rwanda Broadcasting Agency-RBA.
In his spare time, Uwimana Basile reads books mostly on Rwandan history and likes music and Basketball. He is married to Umutoni Carine with who he has two daughters.
